January 29th, 2012

Here are some of the fun things that we did this week!
  • On Monday, Addy's school celebrated the Chinese New Year. This was especially important to their school because they are starting a Chinese Immersion Program next year for the 1st graders. Addy was so excited to be chosen to be part of the Chinese Dragon. They got to parade in front of the whole school! She was so happy!

  • Finally! Enough snow to play in! The kids went sledding with our neighbors in their back yard. They couldn't stop giggling! At first Bodee really liked it but once he fell into the snow, face first, it wasn't so fun:)

  • Brynn's preschool class took a field trip to the pet store this week. Both Brynn and Bodee LOVED it! They got to feel a snake, chinchilla, mouse, cat, dog, and feed a bird. I couldn't believe Bodee let a bird eat out of his fingers.

  • Addy taught herself how to put a ponytail in her doll's hair and this week she learned how to put a ponytail in her own hair! Wow! That's tough stuff! Very proud of her for keeping at it and practicing hard. Plus, it looked really cute!

  • On Saturday night Todd took Brynn on a special to the Jazz game. Jimmer was playing against the Jazz so it was a big deal. Brynn felt so special being able to go with her Dad to such an important event. Todd said she was super cute at the game and kept dancing and yelling "Go Jazz"!

  • Today we had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Bassett's house. Grandpa bought King Crab Legs, cooked them up and they were a hit! They also bought two Nascar power wheels. These were a hit with the grand kids. They sure a fun grandparents.

  • Caution: Bragging Parent on the Loose...                                                                            On Wednesday Addy, Mom, and Dad met with Addy's teacher Ms. Muller for a parent/teacher conference. I knew Addy was doing well in her reading but was shocked hear how great she's progressing. They want kindergartners to currently be a level one and by the end of the year be at a level three in reading. Addy is currently at a level 10! Go Addy! She is also in a special group in her classroom called Quest because she is excelling in math. Her teacher really recommended placing her in the Chinese Immersion Program next year to keep her challenged. We are so proud of Addy!

January 22nd, 2012

Like always this past week was pretty busy and went by really fast.
  • Addy had school off on Monday for Martin Luther King Day but we really didn't do anything very exciting. Monday night both Addy and Brynn threw up so Addy had to stay home from school on Tuesday and Brynn couldn't go to preschool. We also had to cancel our Daisy meeting because the girls were sick. Addy was very sad about that.
  • I went back to school on Tuesday night to Salt Lake Community College. I started the anatomy class a week late so I had a lot to catch up on this week. It feels good being back in school but it always makes home life a little crazier.
  • Brynn had her last day of basketball on Wednesday. They played mini basketball games and I was proud of Brynn for faking out a kid guarding her and shooting the ball!
  • They built a new Culver's in Lehi and since it is one of my favorite Wisconsin restaurants we tried it out on Wednesday evening. Yummy! So glad to have one close.
  • On Friday the girls had their cousin Jane over to play! They love her so much and were so glad to have a play date.
  • Todd and I were able to attend the Oquirrh Mountain Temple on Saturday while his mother watched the kids. It was great to feel the spirit there and feel a perfect peace in my life for a moment. I'm so very grateful I have a wonderful eternal companion. After the temple we stopped by our brother and sister's house and then had a quick dinner at JCW's. Date nights are always fun!
  • I didn't take many pictures but the ones I did take this week were pretty much of Bodee. Love this little stinker!

  • Snuggle time is always a favorite time for the Bassetts!

  • Boden will be 17 months old in four days and church has been extremely difficult the last few months since he does not was to sit and be quiet to any degree. Church is also during his nap time so normally Todd or I take him home after Sacrament Meeting to let him nap. Well today I took Bodee in nursery "just to see how he would do"...HE LOVED IT! Other little kids were crying and screaming he just played happily with all the toys. The second hour I attended Relief Society and he didn't make a peep when I waved good-bye. Hallelujah! Hopefully he continues on this pattern and I can actually attend classes at church for now on! So, even though this was not planned, today was Bodee's first day of nursery! He is growing up so fast:)

  • So I just have to write this so I don't forget. Every day Brynn informs me to 1. not wear my hair in a ponytail but she would like it down and straight, like her hair and 2. not to wear my glasses. She doesn't like them! Seriously, my three year old had fashion tips for me?? Brynn sure makes me laugh. On the other hand it was very cute tonight when Brynn told me she is trying to be like Jesus by trying to be really kind. Such a sweetheart!

January 15th, 2012

We had a very busy week! I taught Brynn's preschool class and our letter this week was N. On Tuesday we learned about nursery rhymes and on Thursday we learned about Fairy Tales. Every day this week was busy with friends, errands, preschool, and family time.
  • Adalyn and Brynnlee started dance class this week. Addy is taking ballet and jazz while Brynn is taking ballet and tap. They both really enjoyed it and Addy has been working on her flexibility and stretching every day since.

  • I signed Brynnlee up for Itty Bitty Basketball at the Legacy Center last month and thought it started this week. Turns out it started last week so she missed three of the six days. Luckily she didn't really care. She sure is cute playing basketball though. She kept running  back to Bodee and me to say 'hi' and give hugs. Cute girl!

  • We went to story time this week and it was up and running. The girls loved it and participated the whole time. Addy felt special being picked as a helper to be in charge of the chickens.

  • On Thursday night Addy and Todd were invited to the Jazz game with Shawn and Faith Ross. Addy really likes to go to Jazz games and loves going on specials with her dad even more. She got home really late so we let her go into school a little late the next morning. Too bad the Jazz lost though!

  • Bodee is now officially on the waiting list for Packer Tickets! We're hoping he gets some by the age of 50:) It was pretty fun to the official letter.

January 8th, 2012

We all stayed busy this week although we didn't really leave the house much. Although we went to the park almost every day because the weather was really nice for January. High 40's to 50's! Here are some of the high points of the week.

  • The girls wanted to do a craft this week so while Bodee was sleeping I got out the paint for them. I let them make Christmas wrapping paper even though Christmas is done. They still loved it! They just love anything that has to do with art:)

  • Addy and her Daisy Girl Scout Troop received their Daisy pin this week. (I obviously did not get a good picture of Addy!) All their mothers came and we said the Pledge of Allegiance and the Girl Scout Promise with the hand sign. It was so cute! They received their pin and a 100 year Girl Scout Anniversary badge. I really love being their troop leader, they are all great girls.

  • So Bodee loves popsicle. This is a big Pace popsicle and he can shove the whole thing in his mouth! Love this kid:)

  • Addy has been saving her money since this summer and it has been burning a hole in her pocket. Especially since I wouldn't let her buy anything during the Christmas season and made her wait to see what Santa brought her. So this week Addy asked if we could go to Build-A-Bear Workshop. I took the girls last year but some how throughout the last year Addy lost her animal so I told her if she bought her own animal then I would take them. Since I had some gift cards left over from last year Addy bought her own animal (a Valentine's cat named Rosie) but I was able to buy each Brynn and Addy an outfit for their animals. Brynn's dog from last year is named Davey. They had a great time!
  • Here they are washing their animals. They were nice and let Brynn rewash Davey.

  • Today was officially Brynn's first day of Primary! She loved it! She felt very grown up going into the big room and sitting a few rows up from Addy. My kids are growing up too fast! (And now the tears start to fall!)

January 1st, 2012

This week turned out to be an easy week at home for the most part. We cleaned the house, put away all the Christmas things and just took it easy.
  • I love this picture I took of Addy and Bodee so I just had to share it.

  • Thursday and Friday were both pretty "warm" out so we had to take advantage of it and play outside. After being in the house all the time the last few months all the kids LOVED playing at the park. Addy is really getting the hang of the ol' hula hoop!

  • On Saturday Addy and I got to go on a special! I really LOVE hanging out with my kids just one on one. It really allows me to give them individual attention that is not always possible on a daily basis. Addy picked out a new outfit on our special and then we went to Jason's Deli for some cheesecake (Addy's favorite!)
  • We celebrated New Year's Eve in style this year. We had a family party which included Chinese noodles, fireworks, Crazy 8's, Uno, and a family toast to a great 2012 with sparkling juice. Every person offered a toast which included kindness honesty, happiness, and fun memories!
  • I hope 2012 is just as great and fun as 2011!

  • Brynn was so excited for her first day of Primary today! But then, we got to church and found out that because we changed buildings today they decided to put off the new classes until next Sunday. Brynn was CRUSHED! She had these big tears in her eyes but she was trying to be brave. Such a sweet girl. Here are their pictures before the knowledge that today was not her first Primary day.

  • Right now Addy is soaking up her learning. Her latest kindergarten evaluation showed that she has mastered all her current academic requirements. Her teacher said she is at the top of the class in math! Addy is a girl who loves to snuggle, especially with her dad.
  • Right now Brynn is super funny. She is always saying "everyday" such as: "Dad, you always have to tell me something everyday. I can't listen to you everyday." She also loves to sing. Her favorites are The Band Perry, Taylor Swift, and all Kid Bopz songs.
  • Right now Bodee is a real cutie. He is saying ma, da, ball, baba and understands so much of what we say to him. He will get his coat and shoes and will walk upstairs when it's time for nap or bed. He still loves hugs and will kisses with an open mouth. He also hits his head on everything!

December 27th, 2011

Since this past week included Christmas, Todd's Birthday and our 6th Wedding Anniversary there was much to celebrate and be so very grateful for!

  • We started the week off by making cut out cookies and decorating them. I always forget how long this project takes (all day!) but the girls' excitement never gets old. This year Addy really was able to help by using the cookie cutters by herself and putting the cut-outs on the sheet herself. Go Addy!

  • On Friday, Todd and I hired a babysitter and we spent the day together. We originally planned on going skiing but Todd wasn't feeling great with a bad cold so we got lots of errands done around town, went shopping at the mall and had lunch together at Brick Oven.
  • On Christmas Eve morning aka Todd's birthday I cooked all the food for our evening meal while Todd took some time to himself. Then he took all of us and his parents out for lunch at one of his favorite restaurants, Japanese Tepanyaki. The girls love Asian food so it was a big hit because our chef was one of the best ones we've ever had. He was so funny and the girls expressions when he lit the fires were priceless. They behaved so well it really was a treat to take them there. Bodee on the other hand is a sixteen month old boy...enough said!

  • After lunch we headed up to see the Christmas Lights at the Salt Lake Temple. This has become our tradition the past few years because it really brings the spirit of Christ into our Christmas celebrations. It was cold but the kids did great.

  • We then headed home and sang Happy Birthday to Todd and let him open his presents. (A hat washer, a cap rack, and a new sweatshirt). Todd asked if I would make him a Jello cake this year. Happy Birthday to my sweet 34 year old:)

  • After cake we started our Christmas traditions. This year we added a new one. A short little movie called "Little One". Great for the kids. It was a perfect Christmas Eve.

  • Santa has arrived!!! My favorite line of the morning is when Addy started looking in her stocking and said "Santa is the nicest man." The girls just kept saying "thank you Santa" as they opened their presents.
  • Addy's 3 top favorite gifts: American Girl Doll (well, the knock off from Target), singing Ariel, Little Mermaid doll, and remote control car.
  • Brynn's 3 top favorite gifts: VTech Camera (really works!), grocery store cash register, and singing Rapunzel Doll.
  • Bodee's 3 top favorite gifts: slide, Mickey Mouse stuffed animal, Elephant ball popper

  • Originally for our anniversary we thought it would be nice to get away for a night but then we decided not to leave because it is always so busy throughout the holidays but then at about noon on our anniversary Todd called and said to pack everyone up he's taking me to Midway for the night since his mom offered to watch the kids! We sat in the hot tub, went to Dairy Keen for dinner and shakes, went ice skating, and talked and laughed! I'm so glad I married someone that continually makes me a better person. Todd is always making me laugh and I am so grateful that he works so hard to provide for our family so I can stay at home with our children. I truly adore this man!

December 18th, 2011

Like always, December has been a very busy month but also lots of fun. These are some of the highlights from this past week.

  • The girls were invited to their friend Aisea's birthday party at Kangaroo Zoo! They had an absolute blast and loved every second of it. They had been asking for weeks to go to Kangaroo Zoo so they were very lucky they got to go for his birthday. Mom loved that they finally got to release some of the winter energy that has been building up.

  • A great group of our friends from the University of Utah village got together for an Ugly Sweater/White Elephant/Game Night party! I honestly don't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Tears came to my eyes multiple times. A huge thank you to all the great couples that were there.
  • Todd and I won the ugliest sweater contest! Our prizes included a pink nightgown, a sexy John Travolta type shirt via Saturday Night Fever, handcuffs, sparkling juice, a bowtie, gum, apple cider and hot chocolate packets.

  • After our late night on Friday we were hoping to sleep in just a little on Saturday morning. At about 7:30am Brynn comes into our room crying and telling me that she got a bead stuck up her nose. Yes, yes she did. Tweezers did not work so finally I gave Todd a big bobby pin and he was able to dig it out while I held her arms down. Thank goodness for Todd's surgical skills or that would have been a trip to Instacare cause it was pretty far up there. We then had a family meeting about NOT sticking things up our noses.

  • Saturday night we met up with our friends at the Sandy Aquarium. I hadn't been there since Addy was one year old so I had no idea they expanded it so much and there was lots more to see. The kids had a great time. It was especially cute when Bodee kept ohhh and ahhh and ooooo ing at all the fish. He LOVED it! Addy thought touching the stingray was super cool and Brynn liked the penguins. Thanks to the Ross family for a good time.
